Local sod is usually grown in sandy soil and adapts quickly to take root within 1-2 weeks, due to lack of nutrients carried in the sod piece itself and will require plenty of water. Muck based sod is found further south and takes more time too root but has more nutrients which requires less water for the initial planting.
